Change Is Best Made In Baby Steps

Many of us have been there where we want to start taking care of ourselves but don’t know where to begin or how to fit exercise or healthy nutrition into our daily routines. As busy human beings in this fast-paced world with many family, career and social obligations, we often feel that there is a lack of time and energy to prioritize health and wellness. Most of us feel that we need to spend hours at the gym to see results. In reality, adding some healthful practices to your day is easier than you think.

It all starts with making some room for yourself to breathe and listen to your body. Change that involves a complete 360 degree turn around is very difficult to stick to and a pretty sure recipe for failure. On the other hand, one little step can lead to huge milestones when it comes to taking care of yourself. A few minutes here and there can build up to many amazing changes in our physical and mental health. Here’s how I add a few minutes of taking care of myself into my daily schedule and make movement and self-care part of my lifestyle.

  • 3 x wall push-ups between bathroom breaks.
  • Practice Kegel exercises while folding laundry or doing dishes.
  • 5 min shoulder and neck stretch after each long computer or phone usage.
  • 3 x deep and long breaths when waking up in the morning and before going to bed.
  • Hydrate myself with fruits and water throughout the day.
  • Write down 3 things that I am grateful for every day.
  • Eat without distractions 2 out of 3 meals a day.
  • Always strive for quality sleep. Take day-time naps if night time sleep is compromised.

Baby steps make change manageable and achievable. These small self-directed wellness initiatives can lead to big impacts on improving your health as each baby step of progress will empower you to keep moving towards healthier you so that you can feel your best and be more effective in your life.
